IndiGo has signed a damp lease agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for a Boeing 787-9 aircraft, marking a significant step in its international expansion strategy. The aircraft is expected to arrive in India in the coming weeks and will begin operations in March 2025. This partnership highlights IndiGo’s commitment to enhancing its global connectivity and offering more travel options to its customers.
The initial lease term is six months, with an option to extend up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals. IndiGo and Norse Atlantic Airways are also exploring further opportunities to expand their collaboration by contracting additional aircraft in the future.
To accelerate its long-haul expansion, IndiGo has placed a firm order for 30 Airbus A350-900 wide-body aircraft, with an option for an additional 70. Deliveries for these aircraft are set to begin in 2027, reinforcing the airline’s long-term vision for global growth.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, stated, “As part of our broader strategy to significantly expand our international network, we are pleased to confirm this damp lease of one Boeing 787-9 aircraft from Norse Atlantic Airways. Our vision is to transform into a global player by 2030 while having strong roots and continuous expansion in India, and we are strategically moving ahead in that direction.” With this latest move, IndiGo continues to strengthen its position in the global aviation market while catering to the increasing demand for international travel from India.
