The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with four key ministries and agencies to strengthen the country’s tourism sector through cross-sectoral cooperation. The agreements were formalized with the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the Ministry of Environment, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), and the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).
Tourism Minister Widyanti Putri Wardhana emphasized that the collaboration is aimed at building a “healthier, more prosperous, and sustainable Indonesia.” The initiative supports the ministry’s five flagship programs: Clean Tourism Movement (GWB), Tourism 5.0, Upgrading Tourism, Events by Indonesia, and the development of Tourism Villages.
Key focus areas of the MoUs include:
- With BGN: Enhancing Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme through tourism village training and participation.
- With MSMEs: Promoting community-based tourism, strengthening local product marketing, and supporting small- and medium-scale investments to create jobs and improve state revenue.
- With Basarnas: Improving tourist safety and security via search and rescue training, integrated communication systems, and streamlined emergency operations.
- With the Environment Ministry: Developing sustainable tourism destinations and eco-friendly infrastructure, while tackling cleanliness challenges that hinder sustainable growth.
Deputy Environmental Minister Diaz Hendropriyono stressed the importance of addressing waste and cleanliness for long-term success, while MSMEs Minister Maman Abdurrahman welcomed the initiative’s potential to boost economic opportunities for small businesses. Basarnas Head Mohammad Syafii also expressed confidence that the partnership would improve disaster response and tourist safety.
This multi-sectoral collaboration highlights Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable tourism, community empowerment, and stronger economic growth aligned with national development goals.
