Lakeeren Contemporary, a bold new addition to Mumbai’s art scene, officially opens its doors at the Grand Hyatt Mumbai, bringing a transformative vision to the city’s cultural landscape. This dynamic space is a collaborative initiative between Namita Saraf and renowned curator Dr. Arshiya Lokhandwala, blending the Grand Hyatt’s two-decade legacy as a hospitality and cultural hub with Lakeeren Gallery’s thirty-year commitment to progressive contemporary art.
More than just a gallery, Lakeeren Contemporary is envisioned as a platform for critical inquiry, artistic innovation, and interdisciplinary dialogue. Situated at the Plaza of Grand Hyatt Mumbai, the gallery aims to create an immersive space where art intersects with ideas, encouraging public engagement and cultural reflection. The new space continues Lakeeren’s legacy of championing conceptually and politically driven art practices.
The inaugural exhibition, Cosmic Frequencies: Consciousness and Quantum Cosmology in Art, launches on May 15, 2025. This thought-provoking group show explores the intersection of science, metaphysics, and consciousness, challenging conventional perceptions of reality. Featuring works by leading Indian and international artists—Anju Dodiya, Atul Dodiya, Astha Butail, Dhara Mehrotra, Mithu Sen, N.S. Harsha, Parul Gupta, Remen Chopra Van Der Vaart, Shaurya Kumar, Shilpa Gupta, Subash Thebe, Sharmistha Ray, Thukral & Tagra, and Waqas Khan—the exhibition presents a diverse range of artistic responses to the mysteries of the universe and human perception.
“By bringing Lakeeren Contemporary into Grand Hyatt Mumbai, we are positioning the hotel as a hub for cultural dialogue where art, learning, and public engagement meet,” said Namita Saraf. “Guests and visitors now have the opportunity to experience cutting-edge contemporary art in an environment that fosters both intellectual and aesthetic exploration.”
Dr. Arshiya Lokhandwala added, “Lakeeren Contemporary is committed to presenting powerful contemporary practices that respond to the complexities of our times. Our goal is to foster curatorial innovation and nurture meaningful artistic discourse.”
The launch of Lakeeren Contemporary marks a significant moment for Mumbai’s art ecosystem, offering a new space for visionary artistic expression and global conversations. Visitors are invited to experience Cosmic Frequencies, a compelling journey into consciousness, cosmology, and the unseen forces shaping our world.
