Laos Becomes Southeast Asia’s Most Budget-Friendly Destination

Laos has emerged as Southeast Asia’s most affordable travel destination for 2025, overtaking traditional budget favourites such as Vietnam and Thailand. With an estimated daily expense of just INR.1,414 for accommodation, meals, and transportation, the country offers exceptional value for travellers seeking authentic cultural and natural experiences.

Visitors are drawn to Laos for its serene landscapes, well-preserved temples, French colonial heritage towns, and laid-back pace of life. Popular stops include Luang Prabang’s UNESCO-listed old town, the capital Vientiane, and the adventure hub of Vang Vieng. The Mekong River, which runs the length of the country, offers river cruises and waterfront stays at a fraction of the cost found elsewhere in the region.

Tour operators note that the country’s affordability is matched by its hospitality and charm, making it an appealing option for both backpackers and mid-range travellers. With rising travel costs in neighbouring destinations, Laos is poised to capture a growing share of regional tourism, particularly from India’s cost-conscious outbound market.
