LOT Polish Airlines and Vienna Airport commemorated seven decades of uninterrupted flight service on the historic Warsaw–Vienna route, underscoring their dynamic and enduring partnership. First resumed in 1955, regular flights between the Polish and Austrian capitals have become a linchpin of Central European connectivity, with LOT’s presence in Vienna stretching back even further to its 1929 inaugural landing from Katowice.
Over the past 30 years alone, the route has transported approximately three million passengers, highlighting its essential role for business, tourism, and cross-European transit. The connection has also served as a launchpad for key milestones in LOT’s fleet evolution, including the first Embraer 170 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner arrivals at Vienna. Executives Amit Ray and Olaf Krauss of LOT Polish Airlines, alongside Vienna Airport’s joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger, marked the occasion with a commemorative photo session.
Julian Jäger remarked on the route’s legacy, calling it a “success story” that positions Vienna as a vital hub for Central and Eastern Europe. Robert Ludera of LOT Polish Airlines further emphasized the route’s significance in fostering shared history and a strong sense of European identity, noting that Warsaw and Vienna now serve as critical transit points at the heart of Europe. The 70th anniversary not only honors decades of partnership, but also signals the route’s ongoing potential as a bridge between nations and cultures in the region.
