Madhya Pradesh Aims Higher in Tourism for 2025

Madhya Pradesh, a land of natural beauty, historical richness, and cultural diversity, is set to achieve new milestones in tourism in 2025. The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board has unveiled an ambitious plan to boost cruise, rural, textile, wellness, and niche tourism, positioning the state as a global destination. A key highlight is the development of India’s first inter-state cruise route, connecting Meghnath Ghat in Madhya Pradesh to Hafeshwar and Mokhadi in Gujarat, with a solar-powered cruise terminal being built in Sakarja.

The state will also enhance its international appeal through a new tourism video campaign featuring sitar maestro Anoushka Shankar and launch 360-degree VR videos, audiobooks, and digital tours. Seasonal influencer meets and a Destination Handbook are also in the pipeline. Efforts to promote new destinations include year-round tent cities with cultural and adventure activities at Mandu, Orchha, and Tamia.

Connectivity is another priority, with plans to expand PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva by connecting Satna to Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Khajuraho. Bhopal will also gain a ₹100-crore international convention center near Minto Hall. Heritage preservation is on track, with Orchha’s nomination for UNESCO World Heritage status and efforts to secure recognition for the Bhagoria dance, Gond painting, and Narmada Parikrama.

Under the Rural Tourism Mission, 350 homestays will become operational in 2025, and 17 homestays will be added along the Narmada tourism route. Craft villages showcasing traditional weaving in Maheshwar, Unchehra, and Bherugarh will boost textile tourism, while adventure tourism will expand with aero-sport activities like skydiving, hot air ballooning, and paramotoring in Ujjain.

The year 2024 marked significant achievements for Madhya Pradesh tourism, including six new sites added to India’s tentative UNESCO World Heritage list and the nomination of Orchha for the permanent list. Cultural milestones included Guinness World Records set during events like the 100th Tansen Samaroh and Khajuraho Dance Festival. Additionally, India’s first women-run hotel, ‘Amaltas,’ was inaugurated, promoting gender inclusivity in hospitality.

The launch of PM Shri Paryatan Vayu Seva provided intrastate air connectivity, while the Responsible Tourism Mission registered 312 homestays. Notable infrastructure developments like the Gandhisagar Tent City and Chanderi Eco Retreat showcased the state’s commitment to offbeat destinations. Recognized as the “Best Tourism State of the Year” at the Travel and Tourism Conclave, Madhya Pradesh continues its journey of redefining tourism.
