Madhya Pradesh-Shot Film ‘Homebound’ Garners Global Acclaim at Cannes 2025

Homebound, the latest feature film by acclaimed director Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, has created a major buzz at the 78th Cannes Film Festival by becoming the only Indian film selected in the prestigious “Un Certain Regard” section. Shot entirely in Bhopal and nearby areas of Madhya Pradesh, Homebound received a nine-minute standing ovation, earning praise from global audiences, filmmakers, and critics alike. The film’s international stature was further elevated with the involvement of Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese, reinforcing its artistic excellence on the global stage.

Starring Ishan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, Homebound is not only a cinematic triumph but also a testament to Madhya Pradesh’s growing prominence as a film-making destination. The state’s rich blend of natural beauty, cultural depth, and urban diversity provided an ideal backdrop for the film’s narrative. Madhya Pradesh’s streamlined film policies, including financial subsidies and a single-window clearance system, have made the state an “ease-of-filming” destination. Since the implementation of its Film Tourism Policy, more than 350 films and web series have been shot in the region, with over INR 24 crore disbursed in financial support.

Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary of Tourism and Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, lauded the film’s success and emphasized the state’s collaborative and film-friendly environment. Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, Shri Dharmendra Singh Lodhi, also congratulated the team, highlighting Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to supporting the film industry through proactive governance and community cooperation. This Cannes recognition not only boosts India’s cinematic reputation but also positions Madhya Pradesh as a global hub for film production, offering a seamless blend of heritage, hospitality, and cinematic potential.
