Malaysia Airlines has expanded its Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme, adding Kuching as the newest destination under its premium stopover initiative. The move, in collaboration with the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), makes Kuching the eighth domestic destination available to international travellers transiting through Kuala Lumpur — strengthening Malaysia’s position as a multi-destination gateway in Southeast Asia.
The BST programme allows eligible international passengers to explore an additional Malaysian city with zero base fare, paying only applicable taxes. With Kuching joining the list, travellers can now choose from eight destinations — Langkawi, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Terengganu, Alor Setar, Kuantan, and now Kuching — each offering a vibrant mix of culture, cuisine, and natural charm.
“Through the Bonus Side Trip programme, we are pleased to offer international travellers the opportunity to discover more of Malaysia in a single journey,” said Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer, Airlines, Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG).
Beyond domestic options, Malaysia Airlines has also extended the programme regionally through its sister airline, Firefly, adding Krabi (Thailand), Siem Reap (Cambodia), and Cebu (Philippines). These limited-time additions, available for booking and travel until 31 December 2025, reflect MAG’s ongoing effort to enhance regional connectivity, travel flexibility, and customer choice.
“The inclusion of Kuching reflects our commitment to showcasing Malaysia’s diversity while positioning Sarawak as a key stopover destination,” Aresandiran added.
This expansion also aligns with Malaysia’s wider tourism goals as the country gears up for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). By highlighting Sarawak’s rainforests, tribal heritage, and eco-tourism appeal, Malaysia Airlines and STB aim to attract travellers seeking authentic, experience-led journeys.
“This initiative not only enriches passenger experience but also strengthens Malaysia’s tourism ecosystem,” the airline noted.
“We’re turning stopovers into stories of discovery.”
