Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, celebrated the arrival of its first Airbus A330-900neo (A330neo) with a launch ceremony at Hangar 6, MAB Engineering Complex. This marks a significant milestone in MAG’s fleet modernization strategy, enhancing operational efficiency, passenger comfort, and sustainability.
The aircraft, registered as 9M-MNG, was inaugurated by Malaysia’s Minister of Transport, Loke Siew Fook, alongside Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, and Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG. It will make its maiden flight to Melbourne via MH149 and gradually service long-haul routes across Australasia.
The A330neo, featuring 297 seats (28 in Business Class and 269 in Economy), includes advanced features such as a 1-2-1 herringbone Business Class configuration with privacy doors, the FlightPath3D interactive map system, and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi for all passengers. Its Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines deliver a 14% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, aligning with MAG’s sustainability goals.
MAG has committed to acquiring 20 A330neo aircraft by 2028 under an agreement with Airbus, Rolls-Royce, and Avolon. It also plans to expand its fleet to 114 aircraft by 2033.
At the event, MAG announced an exclusive partnership with Mercedes-Benz for premium terminal transfer services at KLIA Terminal 1 starting January 2025. Passengers will travel in luxury and sustainability-focused vehicles, including the all-electric EQS 500 4MATIC.
MAG’s Group Managing Director, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, called the launch a “transformative moment” that combines innovation, comfort, and sustainability, reinforcing MAG’s dedication to exceptional passenger experiences.
