Mechukha, a picturesque valley in Arunachal Pradesh, has been awarded the title of India’s Best Mountain Tourism Destination at the India Today Travel Awards. The recognition was presented on March 28 to Adong Moyong and Marto Bagra from the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department by Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. Developed under the Ministry of Tourism’s ‘Swadesh Darshan 2.0’ scheme, Mechukha is being promoted as a ‘slow travel’ destination to encourage longer stays and ensure wider economic benefits for local communities.
Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona highlighted Mechukha’s potential to transform the state’s tourism landscape, calling it a hidden gem in India’s Northeast. Liyi Bagra, Deputy Commissioner of Shi-Yomi District, shared updates on transformative tourism projects, including the redevelopment of Mechukha Adventure Park, the establishment of Mechukha Cultural Haat, and the upcoming Artist’s Village in Galling, all aimed at offering immersive and sustainable travel experiences.
Officials expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Tourism and emphasized the commitment of the Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Department in turning Mechukha into a world-class destination while preserving its natural and cultural heritage.
