Meghalaya is raising the bar for responsible and inclusive tourism with a triple-pronged launch: the OneConnect Meghalaya Tourism Helpline, a revamped Meghalaya Tourism website, and the Chief Minister’s Homestay Mission.
The OneConnect helpline, India’s first multilingual tourism service, provides real-time assistance in English, Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, Khasi, Pnar, and Garo, guiding travelers on safety, logistics, and hidden gems across the state. Accessible via toll-free number, WhatsApp, SMS, or email, it ensures every visitor feels informed and welcomed.
Complementing this, the revamped website serves as a one-click gateway for travelers, centralizing information on attractions, accommodations, and experiences. The Homestay Mission, with a 70% state subsidy, addresses accommodation shortages while empowering local communities. For the upcoming National Games, these homestays will double as a sustainable Games Village, creating long-term tourism infrastructure.
The Chief Minister highlighted Meghalaya’s robust tourism growth: domestic arrivals have surged to 1.6 million, with 50,000 jobs targeted in the next three years. Backed by an infrastructure push of over ₹3,600 crore, including projects in Cherrapunji, the state is also expanding high-end hotels and upgrading Umroi Airport to strengthen connectivity.
Community engagement remains central, with the Community-led Tourism Infrastructure Scheme offering financial aid for pathways, viewing decks, and other local facilities. Grassroots organizations are actively shaping authentic, human-centered experiences, ensuring visitors enjoy both culture and comfort.
By blending technology, sustainability, and local empowerment, Meghalaya is emerging as a model destination for responsible travel, offering visitors a seamless, immersive, and culturally rich journey.
