Meghalaya is set to significantly elevate its cultural calendar as the Me’gong Festival returns to Tura on December 5th and 6th, featuring a global lineup led by pop-rock legend Richard Marx and internationally acclaimed electronic duo Yellow Claw.
The 2025 edition reinforces the State’s rapidly expanding cultural economy framework, a vision championed by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma. Under this framework, major events like Me’gong serve as powerful engines for tourism, livelihoods, and community-led growth.
Global and Local Artists Converge
The festival promises a spectacular musical mix, also featuring Bollywood sensations Kanika Kapoor and Neeti Mohan. They will be joined by a strong roster of local bands, including Rough Road, Hoi Hoi Makbil, Haystack Ladies, G-Hills Finest, Crack Gang, and Ahaia. This diverse blend of local talent and global star power guarantees electrifying energy across the Garo Hills.
Me’gong has firmly established itself as one of the region’s most influential cultural showcases. The 2024 edition recorded an astonishing over 3 lakh visitors across two days, making it one of the largest festival footfalls in the Northeast. This rising scale is central to the Chief Minister’s vision of cultivating an economic ecosystem fueled by music, culture, and indigenous heritage. From hospitality and transport to artisans and local youth, the festival generates widespread economic opportunities and anchors the emergence of the Garo Hills as a major cultural and tourism hub.
 Sustainable Practices and Indigenous Culture
Beyond the music, visitors can savour authentic Garo cuisine and explore the region’s rich craftsmanship at craft exhibitions, weaving workshops, and demonstrations of bamboo artistry and beaded jewellery.
Continuing its commitment to sustainability, the festival adheres to zero-plastic operations, community-led waste systems, and eco-friendly installations that align perfectly with Meghalaya’s environmental ethos.
Me’gong plays a pivotal role in Meghalaya’s holistic tourism development strategy, which focuses on expanding infrastructure and empowering community tourism. With world-renowned performers, indigenous cultural experiences, and sustainable practices, Me’gong Festival 2025 is set to once again turn the Garo Hills into a global cultural stage.
