Mumbai Airport CSMIA Marks Landmark Year with Global Recognition, Record Traffic and Digital Leap

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai, recorded a milestone year in 2025, emerging as one of the world’s most passenger-centric and technologically advanced airports, while setting new benchmarks in traffic, digital integration and sustainability.

At a time when India’s aviation sector is expanding rapidly—driven by rising demand, economic recovery and stronger global connectivity—airports are also facing challenges such as capacity pressures, monsoon-related risks, sustainability expectations and the need for seamless digital systems. Against this backdrop, CSMIA has positioned itself as a resilient, future-ready aviation hub, focused on customer experience, operational excellence and environmental responsibility.

In a major global achievement, CSMIA became the first airport in India and only the third in the world to receive the Level 5 Customer Experience Accreditation from Airports Council International (ACI)—the highest international recognition for service excellence.

The airport handled a record 55.12 million passengers during 2024–25, the highest in its history. It also registered its highest-ever single-day passenger traffic of 1.76 lakh on November 29, 2025, surpassing the previous record of 1.72 lakh passengers.

In terms of air traffic movements (ATMs), CSMIA achieved another milestone with 1,036 ATMs on November 21, 2025, breaking its earlier record of 1,032 set in 2023.

International connectivity remained robust, particularly to Southeast Asia, with around 2.51 million passengers travelling on these routes. Over 14,000 ATMs were recorded for Southeast Asian destinations, including 1,295 movements in December alone. The launch of Royal Jordanian Airlines’ non-stop flights to Mumbai further strengthened the airport’s international network.

CSMIA also posted strong growth in the cargo segment, registering a 17 per cent increase in international cargo compared to 2022–23. The airport achieved its highest-ever daily cargo handling of 204 metric tonnes. Perishable exports continued to rise, with 3,624 metric tonnes of mangoes shipped, marking a 9 per cent year-on-year increase, with key destinations including London, Toronto and New York.

On the technology front, the airport commissioned a state-of-the-art, digital-first Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC), enabling real-time situational awareness and proactive decision-making. It also completed comprehensive pre- and post-monsoon runway maintenance, strengthening operational safety and resilience.

CSMIA received India’s first Emirates Airbus A350 and introduced cashless digital payment systems at its multi-level car parking facility, supporting UPI, digital wallets, debit and credit cards, and FASTag-enabled automatic deductions.

The airport’s digital and infrastructure excellence was recognised with multiple honours, including ‘Best Airport for Digitisation’ at the India Cargo Awards 2025 and ISO 19650-2 certification for excellence in design and construction using Building Information Modelling (BIM).

Investing in people and community, CSMIA delivered over 60,000 man-hours of workforce training during 2024–25, reinforcing safety culture and operational capability. It also partnered with the Adani Foundation and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to support tuberculosis patients through nutritional assistance programmes.

Looking ahead, CSMIA aims to further enhance capacity through advanced digital airside management, expand sustainability initiatives, improve multimodal connectivity, strengthen passenger digital touchpoints, and deepen community engagement and workforce skill development, reinforcing its role as a global gateway and a model airport for India’s growing aviation ecosystem.
