Nagaland aims to transform Naga heritage village Kisama into world-class destination for 25th Hornbill Festival

Nagaland’s Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along announced that the state government is committed to transforming the Naga Heritage Village Kisama into a world-class heritage destination. This effort is part of the preparations for the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Hornbill Festival, a ten-day celebration that has become an international attraction, drawing tourists from around the globe. The festival is scheduled to take place from December 1-10 at the Naga Heritage Village, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations to enhance the visitor experience.

Minister Along emphasized the significance of the Hornbill Festival in showcasing the unique culture, traditions, and music of the Naga tribes. He highlighted that the festival not only fosters unity among the tribes but also serves as a platform to display the rich heritage of Nagaland. “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the Hornbill Festival has seen tremendous growth, evolving into an event of international stature,” he said. Along also acknowledged the foundational contributions of former Chief Minister SC Jamir to the festival’s success.

One of the major upgrades at the Naga Heritage Village Kisama is the construction of a modern amphitheater capable of accommodating over 7,000 people. This new facility is expected to be a key attraction at this year’s festival, which promises to offer visitors new and exciting experiences.

Minister Along also addressed concerns about traffic management during the festival. He assured the public that improved regulations and better coordination between the traffic and home departments would help alleviate congestion. Additionally, he urged the public to adopt responsible practices such as carpooling and using public transportation to ease the flow of traffic during the festival.

The tourism department is aiming to attract over 150,000 visitors this year, surpassing last year’s record attendance. Adding to the festival’s international appeal, Wales has been designated as the country partner for the 25th anniversary celebrations.

The tourism department, in collaboration with other allied departments, is working tirelessly to ensure a memorable and successful celebration of the Hornbill Festival’s 25th anniversary. With these efforts, the Naga Heritage Village Kisama is poised to become a world-class destination, further solidifying Nagaland’s place on the global tourism map.
