Neurodivergent Travellers Seek Inclusive Travel Solutions: Booking.com Research Highlights Key Needs

Indian neurodivergent tourists are looking for more inclusive travel experiences, according to a recent Booking.com study. They have a high need for sensory-friendly accommodations, AI-powered navigation systems, and anxiety-reduction practices before their trip.
In addition to expressing a desire for “travel rehearsals,” which are controlled experiences that assist them in navigating trip scenarios beforehand, 74% of Indian neurodivergent travelers said they prefer quiet areas in hotels, airports, and other important venues. Furthermore, 79% of respondents think AI-powered solutions that detect calmer areas and offer real-time travel updates might greatly enhance their trips.
The results support the increasing global movement toward neurodivergent inclusiveness. 68% of Indian neurodivergent travelers still have challenges when traveling, despite 79% of them feeling that the help they currently receive satisfies their needs. This underscores the need for improved accessibility and communication.
Seventy-seven percent of respondents support the creation of sensory-friendly settings, and seventy-five percent demand that hotels and airplanes have noise-cancelling facilities. 76% of respondents want improved accommodations, and 75% want more comfortable airplane cabins, indicating a need for more inclusive design elements like contact-free check-ins and advance floor plans.

With 79% of neurodivergent travelers expressing interest in AI-powered technologies for real-time updates, schedule modifications, and navigation support in crowded places, the study further highlights the relevance of AI in improving accessibility.
According to Santosh Kumar, Booking.com’s Country Manager for India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Indonesia, “By sharing these insights, we aim to inspire industry-wide collaboration, creativity, and innovation to create a more welcoming travel environment for all.” Kumar highlighted the significance of inclusivity.
A more inclusive future may be possible if the demands of neurodivergent travelers are met by infrastructure upgrades and AI-driven solutions as the travel sector develops.
