Odisha is shedding its image as an underrated destination and is boldly stepping into the limelight. Leading this transformation is Pravati Parida, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister, who is reimagining the state’s tourism narrative with bold ideas, structured policies, and a ₹800+ crore commitment to infrastructure.
From adventure sports to sacred corridors, destination weddings to eco-retreats—Parida is turning the pages of Odisha’s cultural and natural wealth into compelling global experiences.
“We are committed to developing these sites, not just for today, but for future generations,” Parida said while addressing the Odisha Travel Bazaar earlier this year.
“Tourism will be one of Odisha’s biggest growth engines—and we are putting every piece in place to ensure it.”
Adventure Beckons: A 50-Year Blueprint
One of Parida’s most ambitious undertakings is to position Odisha as a top adventure tourism destination in India. A detailed master plan is being developed to tap into the state’s stunning geographical diversity—from waterfalls and forests to coastlines and hills. Rafting, paragliding, and jungle camping are on the cards, with investment-friendly policies in the pipeline.
“We aim to attract serious private players to shape Odisha’s adventure tourism story,” she added.
Destination Weddings: ‘Wed in Odisha’ Initiative
Tapping into the booming wedding tourism market, Parida has announced a unique new initiative titled ‘Wed in Odisha’—a policy aimed at promoting heritage and temple weddings.
“Odisha has some of the most beautiful ancient monuments and temple complexes,” she noted.
“With ‘Wed in Odisha’, we aim to turn these into iconic wedding destinations that blend tradition with grandeur.”
Puri, Konark, and Bhubaneswar are being developed as premium cultural venues, supported by logistics, accommodations, and heritage beautification drives.
A Spiritual Path: Shakti Peetha Corridor
To enhance spiritual tourism, Parida unveiled the upcoming Shakti Peetha Corridor, which will connect eight revered temples across the state. This two-year project includes infrastructural upgrades and even helicopter connectivity for religious travelers.
“Odisha’s spiritual energy is unmatched. We’re building modern access without disturbing our deep-rooted traditions,” said Parida.
Green Tourism & Budget Commitment
Eco-tourism remains a cornerstone of Odisha’s tourism mission. With protected areas like Bhitarkanika and Similipal, the state is investing in sustainable hospitality and low-impact infrastructure.
The recent ₹812 crore allocation for tourism infrastructure reflects that intent.
“This budget reflects our commitment to developing Odisha as a hub for sustainable and responsible tourism,” Parida confirmed.
Investment Boom: ₹8,000 Crore and Counting
During the ‘Make in Odisha’ Conclave, the state secured more than ₹8,000 crore in tourism-related investments. These funds are being funneled into building resorts, convention centers, adventure parks, and more.
“We’re not just promoting travel—we’re creating jobs, boosting local businesses, and positioning Odisha as a world-class tourism hub,” Parida emphasized.
