The Outbound Tour Operators Association of India (OTOAI) has expressed strong support for the Government of India and the vision of Narendra Modi during the ongoing period of global uncertainty, while also voicing concern over the impact on the outbound travel industry.
In an official statement, OTOAI said that national interest remains the top priority and the association fully supports all efforts aimed at keeping India safe, economically resilient and strong. The association acknowledged the Prime Minister’s appeal encouraging citizens to defer non-essential foreign travel and promote domestic tourism in view of concerns related to fuel prices, foreign exchange and global disruptions.
However, OTOAI pointed out that tourism is often among the first sectors to be affected during any crisis and one of the last to recover. The association highlighted that the advisory is expected to significantly impact thousands of professionals connected with outbound tourism, including tour operators, travel agents and allied service providers.
Recognising the seriousness of the national situation, OTOAI stated that it has initiated the process of seeking an audience with the Prime Minister’s Office to present the concerns and practical challenges faced by the travel trade. The association expressed hope that a balanced approach can be worked out that protects national interests while also safeguarding livelihoods linked to the tourism sector.
OTOAI also reaffirmed its commitment to standing with its members and the wider tourism fraternity, assuring stakeholders that it will continue to represent industry concerns in a responsible and constructive manner.
The association further urged people to remain united, undertake only essential travel, travel responsibly and continue upholding the spirit of resilience, service and patriotism during these challenging times.
