Polar Latitudes Expeditions has added a new vessel, Discoverer (formerly Exploris One), to its fleet, set to operate Antarctic voyages from the 2026–27 season, replacing Seaventure.
The move marks a strategic shift from chartered to owned vessels, enabling greater control over expedition design, onboard experience, and learning programmes, the company said.
Built at Finland’s Rauma shipyard, the vessel has a long polar legacy, having previously sailed as Silver Explorer and Prince Albert II. It underwent a major refurbishment in 2023, with further upgrades planned ahead of its Antarctic deployment to align with the company’s small-ship expedition model.
Discoverer will operate all previously scheduled departures and allow additional sailings during peak Antarctic months, including the flagship Crossing the Antarctic Circle itinerary.
Beyond Antarctica, the vessel will be deployed by sister brand Heritage Expeditions, with plans to expand into Chilean fjords and Patagonia in 2027, marking a new destination for the group.
The expansion comes amid rising interest in expedition cruising among Indian luxury and adventure travellers, particularly for remote destinations like Antarctica and the Arctic.
