Portugal has been named “Best Golf Destination in the World” at the World Golf Awards 2024, held in Funchal, Madeira. The country also claimed the title of “Best Golf Destination in Europe” for the third year in a row.
The achievement was attributed to Portugal’s integrated tourism offerings, including excellent accessibility, exceptional hospitality, and high-quality sports and hotel infrastructure. These factors cater to both professional and amateur golfers, making Portugal a top destination for golf enthusiasts worldwide.
Turismo de Portugal highlighted that golf tourism plays a key role in boosting tourist revenue and expanding seasonal tourism across the country. The World Golf Awards, now in its 11th edition, is a prestigious event where industry professionals from over 100 countries cast their votes.
Madeira, the host of this year’s awards, also received recognition, winning the “Best Emerging Golf Destination in the World” award. Portugal is home to 92 golf courses, with notable concentrations in the Algarve, Lisbon, Porto, and the northern regions.
The World Golf Awards are part of the World Travel Awards, which recognize excellence in global tourism.
