Quang Ninh province, home to UNESCO-recognized Ha Long Bay, is gearing up to elevate its cruise tourism sector following an impressive performance in 2024. The province welcomed 19 million visitors last year, including 3.8 million international tourists, with cruise travelers contributing significantly.
Leveraging its proximity to major markets like China, Japan, and South Korea, Quang Ninh has been promoting its integrated infrastructure, stunning landscapes, and cultural richness to attract leading cruise lines. In 2024, approximately 60 international cruise ships, including Viking Orion and Royal Caribbean, brought over 100,000 visitors to Ha Long Bay.
The province aims to attract 20 million tourists in 2025, including 4.5 million international visitors. Key initiatives include enhancing cruise itineraries, such as routes from Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Beihai to Ha Long. The arrival of the Blue Dream Melody cruise ship with 400 Chinese tourists in late 2024 highlights growing demand.
To support this growth, Quang Ninh plans to upgrade infrastructure, develop high-end tourism products, and ensure top-quality services. The province is also focusing on staff training, improved safety standards, and collaborations with travel agencies to offer customized experiences. Ha Long City is set to enhance its appeal further with cultural themes like the City of Flowers and City of Festivals.
By forming partnerships with leading tour operators and hosting media and travel agencies, Quang Ninh is positioning itself as a premier cruise destination in Vietnam and the region.
