Radisson Blu Bengaluru, Outer Ring Road, has solidified its position as a leader in sustainability by receiving the prestigious LEED Zero Carbon Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). This milestone comes on the heels of another significant achievement earlier this year, as the hotel became the first in India to earn the LEED V4.1 Platinum Certificate for Operations & Maintenance of an Existing Building.
LEED Zero Carbon Certification recognizes net-zero carbon emissions from energy consumption, achieved through avoided or offset emissions over a 12-month period. This underscores the hotel’s commitment to environmental stewardship, demonstrated by its investment in renewable energy and innovative practices.
The property is powered entirely by green energy generated from its on-site solar plant, making it a net-zero energy building. Additionally, the hotel operates electric vehicles (EVs) for guest commutes, with all EVs charged on-site using solar-generated electricity. An in-house biogas plant converts organic waste into biogas for cooking in the staff canteen, while the by-product, organic sludge, is utilized as fertilizer for the hotel gardens, enabling 100% circularity in organic waste management.
To reduce single-use plastic waste, the hotel has installed an in-house water bottling plant, replacing plastic bottles with refillable glass bottles used in guest rooms, restaurants, and banquet facilities. This initiative alone has prevented over a tonne of plastic waste annually.
Water conservation is another area where the hotel excels. A rainwater harvesting system captures and reuses rainwater, while an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) recycles laundry water for reuse, supplemented by advanced filtration systems like Ultra Filtration (UF) and Reverse Osmosis (RO).
