A new book, Reclaiming Incredible by tourism and hospitality professional Naveen Kundu, presents a strategic blueprint to reposition India as a major global tourism and economic powerhouse, arguing that the country’s vast heritage remains significantly under-leveraged in global tourism markets.
Moving beyond conventional destination storytelling, the book identifies communication failure—not just infrastructure—as India’s biggest tourism challenge. Kundu stresses the need for a modern, technology-led global marketing strategy that can effectively engage international travellers, influencers, tour operators and event planners.
A key theme of the book is reframing India’s global narrative by shifting focus from monument-centric and post-invasion histories to the deeper civilizational story of pre-invasion Bharat. The author argues that India’s indigenous knowledge systems, spiritual heritage and ancient innovations offer a more authentic and globally relevant tourism proposition.
The book also highlights India’s untapped potential in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions) segment. In a dedicated chapter, Kundu calls for stronger institutional capability and international positioning to attract large-scale global conventions, identifying MICE tourism as a critical growth driver.
As part of its roadmap towards Viksit Bharat 2047, Reclaiming Incredible proposes structural reforms, including the creation of independent, professional tourism boards at central and state levels, staffed by industry experts rather than career bureaucrats. The objective is to enable faster decision-making, data-driven strategy and global competitiveness.
The book outlines an ambitious vision to double tourism’s contribution to India’s GDP to 10 per cent, generate up to 200 million jobs, and place India among the world’s top five tourism destinations.
Reclaiming Incredible is positioned as a policy and industry-focused work aimed at government stakeholders, tourism boards, destination marketers and private-sector leaders. The book is available in paperback and digital formats on Amazon and Kindle.
