S Hotels and Resorts PCL, a subsidiary of Singha Estate PCL, is making waves in sustainable hospitality as its flagship SAii brand achieves significant green milestones across Thailand and the Maldives. SAii Laguna Phuket and SAii Lagoon Maldives have become the first and only venues in their respective countries to earn the Gold Certification from the Event Industry Council (EIC) for Sustainable Event Standards, positioning them at the forefront of eco-conscious MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.
In addition, the consistent Green Globe certifications — three years running for SAii properties in Thailand and two in the Maldives — underscore SAii’s deep-rooted commitment to responsible, eco-friendly tourism.
SAii Laguna Phuket, Thailand’s first EIC Gold-certified venue, offers a 1,900-sqm ocean-facing MICE complex that aligns with TCEB’s Thailand MICE Venue Standards. From banning single-use plastics to carbon footprint tracking, the resort is a sustainability model. Eco initiatives include collaboration with local NGO Seeds of Change to create upcycled beach bags and the introduction of “Sustainable Sleep” with allergen-proof, eco-friendly mattresses. Guests can also enjoy organic cuisine, community-driven cooking classes, beach cleanups, and non-motorised water sports.
SAii Lagoon Maldives, part of CROSSROADS Maldives, is the first Maldivian resort to secure EIC Gold status. Its 326-sqm Event Hall and eco-centric MICE programmes support Hilton’s “Meet with Purpose” ethos, offering guests marine conservation activities, electronic documentation, solar-powered systems, and sustainable dining sourced from local farms and the ocean. Plastic-free operations and energy-efficient technologies enhance its commitment to low-impact luxury.
SAii Phi Phi Island Village continues to lead in eco-tourism, recently listed among the Top 100 Sustainable Hotels and Resorts by Luxury Lifestyle Awards. The resort’s new eco trail, snorkelling routes, marine conservation workshops, and team-building experiences such as mangrove planting and stargazing offer guests immersive sustainability-focused stays.
Michael Marshall, CEO of S Hotels and Resorts, affirmed, “These certifications highlight our mission to seamlessly integrate sustainability into every aspect of hospitality. SAii’s green credentials continue to earn global recognition, encouraging us to push forward in shaping the future of sustainable travel.”
