
In a landmark moment for Indian tourism, Skål International, the world’s largest network of travel and tourism professionals, officially installed its Jammu & Kashmir chapter today. The installation ceremony, held at The Countryside Resort & Banquets in Srinagar, marks the 19th club in India and is being hailed as a major step toward integrating the region into global tourism networks.
The event was attended by senior tourism professionals, hoteliers, travel operators, and members of the Skål India board, underscoring the significance of the launch for both local stakeholders and the broader travel industry.
“Tourism is the backbone of Jammu and Kashmir’s economy,” said Farooq Ahmad Shah, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Jammu & Kashmir, who served as the Chief Guest. “It is heartening to see the Skål International Jammu & Kashmir club taking shape. I’m confident it will play a vital role in showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.”
The new chapter is led by Sk Abdul Wahid Malik as its President, with a core team that includes Vice President Sk Bashir Karnai, Secretary Sk Adil Hussain, and Treasurer Sk Hilal Ahmed Dar. Other office bearers include Sk Amir Lateef (Director, Young Skål), Sk Sameer Ahmad Baktoo (Director, PR & Communications), and Sk Mohmed Akram Siah (Auditor).
“We are thrilled to embark on this journey as part of the Skål International family,” said Abdul Wahid Malik. “Our goal is to foster collaboration and innovation within the tourism sector in J&K. The launch of the Jammu & Kashmir chapter comes at a time when the Union Territory is witnessing renewed focus on tourism revival and destination branding. The new club is expected to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, sustainable development, and global exposure for local tourism professionals.
