Gurugram, February 19: Travel search platform Wego has reported a sharp spike in flight searches to cities hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with host destinations accounting for 45–55% of total searches and clicks across its platform during January and February 2026.
The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, has triggered sustained travel momentum since late 2025, reflecting early and event-led booking behaviour.
According to Wego’s data, cities including Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Colombo have recorded elevated search volumes, with demand intensifying around high-profile fixtures. The recent India–Pakistan match in Colombo led to a marked surge in both direct flight and hotel searches, indicating strong cross-border cricket-driven travel.
Industry observers note that the data underscores a broader trend of sports-led tourism driving advance bookings and multi-day leisure extensions, particularly around weekend fixtures. With India advancing to the Super 8 stage, demand across host cities where the team is scheduled to play is expected to remain firm through the tournament window.
The latest search trends highlight the growing role of marquee sporting events in stimulating regional aviation flows and short-haul international travel across South Asia.
