
Lobsang Chophel, a dedicated photographer hailing from Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district, has clinched the ‘Best Tourism Destination Online Competition-2025’ title, an event organized by the state Tourism Department. Chophel rose to the top with his captivating depiction of Jethang valley in Mago, beautifully showcasing its enchanting landscape and vibrant culture. “Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Tawang, Jethang valley is a hidden gem renowned for its breathtaking bloom of primulas between July and late September. This serene valley is also the seasonal home to the Brokpas, the traditional yak herders of the region,” Chophel explained.
Expressing his elation, Chophel remarked, “Photography is my passion, and I never expected my work to earn such recognition. This award has truly inspired me to further pursue my dreams.” Having begun his journey in photography as a schoolboy, Chophel has built up an impressive portfolio capturing landscapes, cultural traditions, religious practices, and festivals, winning accolades from audiences both near and far.
According to the Tourism Department, the online contest attracted travelers from across India, encouraging them to share their favorite destinations in Arunachal Pradesh and shine a light on the state’s scenic landscapes, vibrant cultures, and lesser-known treasures. The entries—numbering in the hundreds—were evaluated for creativity, storytelling, diversity of destinations, and engagement on social media. Chophel’s evocative portrayal of Jethang valley stood out, earning him widespread acclaim and highlighting Arunachal Pradesh as a must-visit destination for nature and culture enthusiasts.
