Thailand to Offer Free Domestic Flights to International Tourists Under THB 700 Million Scheme

Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Ministry has announced a THB 700 million program to offer free domestic flights for international visitors from August to December 2025. The scheme aims to attract at least 200,000 tourists and promote travel beyond Bangkok, Phuket, and other major hubs.

The initiative will be rolled out with six airlines Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai Airways International, Thai Lion Air, and Thai VietJet. Under the plan, eligible travellers booking standard tickets to Thailand will receive either two free domestic flights or a one-way option, including a 20 kg baggage allowance.

If approved by the Cabinet next week, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will launch the campaign under the banner “Buy International, Free Thailand Domestic Flights.” Targeted destinations include UNESCO cities, secondary tourist hubs, and cultural and nature attractions.

Officials estimate the program could generate THB 8.81 billion in direct spending and an overall THB 21.80 billion economic impact. The move is part of Thailand’s “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025”, designed to blend tourism with sports and cultural experiences.

Inspired by Japan’s domestic travel model, the scheme seeks to distribute economic benefits to regional areas. Meanwhile, the ministry confirmed that its “Half-Price Thailand Travel” program for locals is nearly fully booked, with plans for a possible second phase to sustain momentum.
