The Oberoi Group has formally unveiled The Oberoi Rajgarh castle, Khajuraho, a superbly renovated 350-year-old Bundela-era castle located across a tranquil 76-acre estate with its own natural lake. Built by Maharaja Hindu Pat of the Bundela Dynasty, the palace rises from the Maniyagarh Hills and is surrounded by ancient Sal and Palash woods, with panoramic vistas of the Vindhyachal hills. Its strategic location places guests minutes away from Panna National Park & Tiger Reserve and a short drive from the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Khajuraho, giving a rare blend of regal heritage, wilderness and luxury.
The renovation has been “an extraordinary journey of bringing history back to life,” according to Arjun Oberoi, Executive Chairman of The Oberoi Group, who emphasized how every architectural detail has been revived with profound regard for the palace’s legacy. The estate has 65 opulent rooms and suites, including the magnificent Palace Suites, villas with private pools, and lodgings with terraces and gardens overlooking the lake, hills, and forests. The highlight is the enormous Kohinoor Suite with two bedrooms and a private pool.
Dining at the palace celebrates regional traditions through three signature venues: Maanya, serving royal-era recipes in an opulent setting; Neerangan, positioned by the lake with Indian and global cuisines; and Amrava, offering crafted cocktails and artisanal plates in an elegant courtyard environment. The gastronomic experience is further elevated by private dining experiences located across the estate.
The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace also features elegant locations for private meetings and festivities, with indoor banquet areas of 440 sq m and an additional 518 sq m outside. Grand chandeliers, towering ceilings, magnificent pillars and panoramic views of palace gardens and distant forests make a breathtaking background for weddings and special gatherings.
Vikram Oberoi, CEO, The Oberoi Group, stated that the opening underscores the brand’s aim of establishing extraordinary luxury destinations in culturally and naturally significant regions. A tranquil boat trip over the lake leads to the estate’s immersive spa experience, Asmi by Oberoi, which offers tented treatment suites, lakeside rituals, and holistic therapies. Two temperature-controlled pools, including a lakeside infinity pool, guarantee total relaxation.
Guests can explore the region through bespoke experiences, including the “Footsteps of the Chandela” sunrise temple walk, “Crown of the Wild” safaris in Panna, and the “Canyon of Legends” tour of Raneh Gorge and the Ken Gharial Sanctuary. Cultural evenings feature dance performances, dhoop daan ceremonies and storytelling sessions. For young travellers, activities like “The Royal Quest” add playful learning to their stay.
Aligned with The Oberoi Group’s values of responsible luxury, the palace includes sustainability initiatives such as solar electricity, LED lighting, onsite farming, water recycling, an organic waste converter and an in-house water bottling facility. These initiatives protect traditional customs, lessen their negative effects on the environment, and support local livelihoods.
General Manager Manav Mathur said bringing Rajgarh back to life has been “an honour and a responsibility,” seeking to conserve the palace’s character while giving warm and genuine hospitality.
Now open to guests from India and around the world, The Oberoi Rajgarh Palace stands as an extraordinary confluence of royal grandeur, natural beauty and heartfelt Oberoi service inviting travellers to slow down, reconnect with history and experience an unforgettable journey in the heart of Madhya Pradesh.
