Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC) Chairperson Jyoti Mayal, along with CEO Rajan Bahadur and Vivek Shandilya, recently met with Jayant Chaudhary, the Minister of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (I/C), at Kaushal Bhawan in New Delhi. The meeting focused on the scope within the fields of tourism and hospitality and the role of skilling in providing meaningful employment opportunities for the youth.
During the discussion, Minister Chaudhary highlighted the significant potential in the tourism and hospitality sectors and emphasized the importance of skilling programs to equip young people with the necessary skills to secure employment in these industries.
Mayal and Bahadur elaborated on various initiatives undertaken by THSC, such as the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), the Pradhan Mantri Vikas Kendra (PMVK), and the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programs. These initiatives, under the purview of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and guided by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), aim to enhance skill development and employability.
The conversation also touched on expanding skilling efforts in collaboration with state governments, particularly in the North East region, and with the Ministry of Tourism. The parties agreed to reconvene soon to plan a strategic way forward.
The meeting underscores the commitment of THSC and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship to advancing skill development in the tourism and hospitality sectors, ultimately creating more job opportunities and fostering economic growth.
