Tmt. J. Innocent Divya, IAS, has taken charge as the Commissioner of Tamil Nadu Tourism and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), marking an important leadership transition for one of India’s most diverse and culturally rich tourism destinations.
Prior to this appointment, Tmt. Divya served as Commissioner of Technical Education, where she was closely associated with policy implementation, institutional strengthening, and administrative reforms across the higher and technical education ecosystem. Her experience in managing large public institutions and driving system-level improvements is expected to add strategic depth to Tamil Nadu’s tourism administration.
As Commissioner of Tourism and MD of TTDC, she will oversee both policy direction and operational execution, including destination development, tourism infrastructure, promotion, and the management of TTDC’s extensive portfolio of hotels, transport services, and tourism facilities across the state.
Tamil Nadu continues to be among India’s top tourism-performing states, driven by strong domestic footfall across pilgrimage centres, heritage cities, coastal destinations, hill stations, and emerging experiential tourism circuits. In this context, the role assumes added significance as the state focuses on enhancing visitor experience, improving last-mile connectivity, and strengthening public tourism infrastructure.
With her background in governance and institutional management, Tmt. J. Innocent Divya’s leadership is expected to support greater coordination between policy planning and on-ground execution, while also aligning tourism development with sustainability, capacity building, and service quality enhancement.
Her appointment comes at a time when state tourism bodies across the country are increasingly focusing on diversification beyond traditional circuits, digital outreach, and upgrading tourism assets to meet evolving traveller expectations.
