Rajiv Mehra, President, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), has praised the government for revising guidelines and removing seven-day mandatory quarantine for international travellers. The government has also removed the list of high-risk countries, which is good for the tourism industry as there were some key source markets in the list. He has requested that the guidelines be further liberalised in the next 10 days.
Mehra thanked Arvind Singh, Tourism Secretary, and the entire team in the health ministry for supporting the industry in revision of rules.
IATO has appealed to the Centre to resume scheduled international flights. Currently, there are only limited air bubble flights that are operating to some selected countries only. Due to this, air tickets are exorbitantly high.
Once normal international flight operation is resumed, flight fares will come down, and foreign tourists will start travelling to India, Mehra mentioned. He is also hopeful that e-visa restrictions will also be removed by this month-end.
