Tourism Malaysia hosted its first consumer event in China since the pandemic, from March 7-9 at TeeMall, Guangzhou, marking the official launch of the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign for the Chinese market.
With a goal of attracting seven million Chinese travelers by 2026, the event was inaugurated by Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director-General Samuel Lee, Malaysian Consul-General in Guangzhou Suraya Ahmad Pauzi, and MICA President Angie Ng. The campaign aims to position Malaysia as a top, safe, and attractive destination while strengthening ties with industry partners.
In 2023, Malaysia welcomed 3.72 million Chinese visitors, a 130.9% year-on-year growth. The visa-free policy extension until December 2026 and 515 weekly flights between the two nations are expected to drive further tourism growth, enhancing bilateral economic and cultural ties.
