Industry leaders unite in New Delhi to strengthen inbound tourism, demand policy reforms, and push for a tech-driven future.
The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) hosted its 43rd Annual General Meeting at The Claridges, New Delhi, marking over four decades of service to India’s inbound tourism sector. The AGM brought together leading stakeholders, policymakers, and members from across the country to deliberate on policy reforms, global competitiveness, and the digital readiness of the industry.
Welcoming members, Ravi Gosain, President, IATO, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to promoting India as a premier global destination and highlighted key achievements — including progress on GST rationalization, reopening of the China market, and new digital initiatives. “IATO’s strength lies in its unity, credibility, and persistent advocacy,” said Gosain, emphasizing continued dialogue with the government on tourism-friendly policies.
The AGM also spotlighted digital transformation and skill-building, with new workshops on GenAI adoption, first responder training, and a redesigned member portal offering personalized access to industry updates and client leads.
Presenting the Annual Report, Sunil Mishra, Honorary Secretary, called for a stronger marketing budget for India’s global tourism campaigns — citing a drastic cut from ₹33 crore to ₹3 crore in the Ministry of Tourism’s 2025–26 allocation. “Without robust overseas promotion, India risks losing its competitive edge,” he warned.
IATO reiterated policy recommendations including export industry status for tour operators, tax refund for tourists, GST rationalization, and deemed export recognition for inbound services. The association also confirmed its next annual convention will be held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, in 2026.
