Authorities in Gulmarg have issued a travel advisory to ensure safety amid icy road conditions as heavy snowfall transforms the region into a winter wonderland. The Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Gulmarg has outlined measures for the Gulmarg-Tangmarg route to prevent accidents and traffic disruptions. Only 4×4 vehicles or those equipped with anti-skid chains are permitted on the route until icy patches melt, and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) with a seating capacity of 10 or fewer passengers are allowed to maintain smooth traffic flow. Authorized vendors have been designated to provide anti-skid chains at a standardized cost of INR 600 per pair, operating exclusively in designated parking zones to avoid congestion. Tour operators and private vehicle owners have been directed to use designated parking facilities in Tangmarg to minimize roadside disruptions, ensuring that emergency services and snow clearance teams can function without hindrance. Additionally, coat and boot vendors are prohibited from setting up along roadsides to maintain unobstructed traffic. The SDM emphasized the importance of compliance with the advisory and urged tourists, locals, and service providers to collaborate in maintaining safety and order. Visitors are advised to prepare adequately, equipping their vehicles with necessary safety tools and adhering to all regulations to enjoy Gulmarg’s winter magic safely.
