Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Highlights Growth & Future Plans at Unity Promo Fest 2025

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury extended a warm welcome to media, tour operators, and delegates during his address at the Unity Promo Fest 2025. The event, organised by the Tripura Tourism Department, is aimed at showcasing the state’s tourism potential and strengthening connections within the travel industry.

Speaking to an attentive audience, Minister Chowdhury noted that some visitors were returning guests while others were here for the first time, and he expressed his heartfelt greetings to all. He recalled the success of the Promo Fest 2024, which was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister and drew participants from across the country. He mentioned that more than 78 tour operators from 16 Indian states took part in last year’s event, reflecting a wide interest in Tripura as a tourism destination.

This year’s Unity Promo Fest has extended its reach beyond national boundaries. For the first time, tour operators from neighbouring countries — Thailand, Malaysia, Bhutan and Myanmar — participated in the B2B tourism meetings, a development that the minister described as a significant milestone. He emphasised that such business-to-business interactions play a pivotal role in promoting tourism and expanding operators’ business networks.

Reflecting on the outcomes of last year’s meetings, Minister Chowdhury shared encouraging figures: more than 700 tourists were sponsored by attending tour operators, generating over ₹2 crore in revenue through package tours. He described these results as highly satisfactory and motivating for the state’s ongoing tourism initiatives.

Tripura’s natural beauty and landscape, the minister said, continue to be among its greatest assets. A video presentation shown before his speech highlighted key tourist attractions that annually draw thousands of visitors from across India and abroad.

Looking ahead, Minister Chowdhury assured delegates that more tourism infrastructure projects are under development. He outlined that several initiatives — including projects inaugurated by the Chief Minister and those with foundations laid — will be completed in the coming months. These new developments, he said, will strengthen Tripura’s appeal and make it one of the country’s most attractive destinations.

Highlighting one major project, the minister spoke about the Government of India’s sponsorship of ₹98 crore for the construction of a replica of 51 Shaktipeeths in Gomati district, a spiritual tourism initiative with expected completion within 12–15 months. Such projects, he said, will further enrich the state’s tourism offerings.

Chowdhury also underscored Tripura’s cultural heritage, archaeological significance, and scenic landscapes as key drivers for future tourism development. The Tourism Department is actively promoting these attractions through roadshows, promotional activities, and participation in national and international tourism events — efforts designed to position Tripura on the global tourism map.

Closing his address, the minister once again welcomed all tour operators, media representatives and delegates. He expressed hope that their stay in Tripura would be memorable and that they would carry back positive impressions, helping spread the message of Tripura as an emerging and promising tourist destination.
