Union Budget 2025 Boosts Tourism with Infrastructure Development, Wellness Initiatives, and Enhanced Connectivity

The Union Budget 2025 has outlined a strategic roadmap for India’s tourism sector, focusing on infrastructure upgrades, enhanced connectivity, and wellness tourism. Pradeep Shetty, spokesperson for the Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI) and Vice President of the Federation of Hotel and Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), praised the government’s commitment to developing 50 top tourist destinations in collaboration with state governments. This initiative aims to improve infrastructure, attract more visitors, and support local communities. Additionally, the inclusion of hotels in these destinations in the harmonious master list aligns with the industry’s long-standing demand for Infrastructure Status, facilitating access to affordable, long-term financing for hotel upgrades and expansion.

The budget also strengthens India’s position as a global medical and wellness tourism hub with the ‘Heal-in-India’ initiative. Recognizing India’s reputation for high-quality yet cost-effective healthcare, this initiative aims to attract international patients seeking specialized treatments. By expanding healthcare facilities and promoting wellness tourism, India is set to become a preferred destination for medical travelers.

Further boosting inbound tourism, the introduction of visa fee waivers and e-visa options for select tourist groups simplifies the travel process, making India a more accessible and attractive destination. The government’s emphasis on religious tourism, through infrastructure enhancements at key spiritual sites, will elevate the experience for domestic and international pilgrims, reinforcing India’s status as a leading cultural and religious tourism destination.

The expansion of the UDAN scheme is another game-changer, with plans to connect 120 new destinations and accommodate an additional 4 crore passengers over the next decade. This initiative will enhance regional connectivity, promote travel to emerging destinations, and create economic opportunities in smaller towns and cities. Additionally, the introduction of Mudra loans for homestay businesses will empower local entrepreneurs, drive job creation, and boost tourism in lesser-explored regions.

The National Geospatial Mission, aimed at improving mapping and spatial data, will support better tourism planning and infrastructure development. Collectively, these initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to positioning India as a top global tourism destination, fostering economic growth, and unlocking new opportunities for businesses and travelers alike.
