Uttar Pradesh has been selected as the Theme State for the 39th Surajkund International Crafts Mela 2026, placing the state’s rich cultural heritage, traditional crafts and folk arts at the heart of one of India’s most prominent cultural festivals.
Scheduled to be held from 31 January to 14 February 2026, the Surajkund mela will present Uttar Pradesh through a dedicated thematic pavilion, showcasing its diverse handicrafts, handloom traditions, folk performances and regional cuisine. Artisans from across the state are expected to participate, highlighting district-specific crafts such as hand embroidery, metalwork, pottery, glasswork and traditional perfumes, reflecting the depth and diversity of Uttar Pradesh’s cultural landscape.
The Theme State presentation will also align with the One District One Product (ODOP) approach, offering visitors an immersive experience of Uttar Pradesh’s artisan economy and traditional skills that have been passed down through generations. Daily cultural performances, including folk music and dance, will add to the visual and experiential narrative of the state’s heritage.
Officials associated with the preparations say the Surajkund platform offers a significant opportunity to connect artisans directly with national and international audiences, while reinforcing the cultural identity of Uttar Pradesh as a major centre of India’s living traditions.
The 2026 edition of the Surajkund International Crafts Mela will also feature additional thematic and international participation, strengthening its role as a major hub for cultural exchange, heritage tourism and craft-based livelihoods.
