Uttar Pradesh Unveils Bold Heritage Tourism Drive to Fuel Growth

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh today unveiled a sweeping tourism expansion plan aimed at harnessing the power of heritage and sacred circuits to boost employment and economic growth. Under the state’s Vision 2047 blueprint, tourism’s share in the country will rise dramatically—UP’s contribution growing from 13% in 2016 to almost 20% by 2024, officials noted.

The strategy revolves around multiple curated tourism circuits, including Ramayana, Krishna, Buddhist, Shakti, and Jain trails, as well as revitalization efforts in regions like Bundelkhand and Vindhya. Sacred hubs—Mathura, Sarnath, Kushinagar—are expected to see enhanced infrastructure such as helipads and improved access, while a relic enshrinement project is underway in Kapilvastu.

“Tourism is no longer just preservation—it’s sustainable development,” the CM emphasized, pointing to the broad multiplier effect on small businesses—from vendors to hoteliers. With the rollout of heritage site integration and improved visitor management under public-private partnerships, Uttar Pradesh is staking its claim as a leading cultural and pilgrimage tourism magnet in India.
