Van Rani Toy Train Set for Grand Comeback at Mumbai’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park

After a four-year hiatus, the iconic Van Rani toy train is all set to roll again at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Mumbai, delighting families and nature lovers alike. Established in 1974, Van Rani, fondly known as the “Queen of the Jungle,” has offered generations of Mumbaikars scenic rides through the park’s lush 106.95 sq. km landscape. Operations came to a halt in 2021 when Cyclone Tauktae caused extensive damage to the train’s tracks and infrastructure. Now, thanks to a major restoration initiative, supported by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal and Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik, the toy train is making a much-anticipated return.

The redevelopment project not only repairs and upgrades the heritage toy train but also enhances the visitor experience with wildlife-themed attractions and improved station facilities. As the finishing touches are completed, the revival is expected to boost eco-tourism, making SGNP an even more popular destination for weekend outings, school trips, and photography enthusiasts. This restoration effort underscores SGNP’s commitment to environmental awareness and conservation, helping reconnect urban residents with Mumbai’s natural heritage. Stay tuned for Van Rani’s grand relaunch — a landmark event promising nostalgia, adventure, and a renewed bond with nature in the heart of the city.
