Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh has called for a bold, sustainable, and people-driven approach to strengthen the country’s booming tourism sector. Speaking at the High-Level Tourism Forum of ITE HCMC 2025 on September 4, he emphasized that tourism is not only an economic pillar but also a humanistic sector that shapes cultural identity and connects Vietnam with the world. Highlighting the nation’s advantages such as nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 16 intangible heritage practices, vibrant culinary traditions, and natural beauty, Mai positioned Vietnam as a prime global destination for culture, MICE, and luxury travel.
The Deputy Prime Minister presented a six-point roadmap to unlock Vietnam’s full tourism potential. First, he urged citizens to adopt an ambassadorial mindset, welcoming visitors with warmth while using technology and ecological awareness to enhance travel experiences. Second, he stressed the importance of shifting focus towards sustainable and regenerative tourism, ensuring that development benefits local communities and protects the environment. Third, he highlighted the urgency of innovation and swift action in a highly competitive global market, backed by good governance and knowledge sharing. Fourth, he called for cross-sector collaboration, noting that tourism must integrate input from science, technology, agriculture, commerce, and creative industries to build distinctive and world-class products.
The fifth point emphasized investing in human resources through global-standard training, vocational education, and skill exchanges with partner nations, as people remain the true strength of Vietnam’s tourism brand. Finally, Mai underscored the role of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in creating authentic visitor experiences, suggesting financial and developmental support to foster entrepreneurship and community growth.
Mai concluded that Vietnam’s tourism is not just about destinations and revenue but also about peace, prosperity, and a stronger sense of national pride. He urged stakeholders to innovate smartly and sustainably to shape a brighter future for the industry. With Ho Chi Minh City emerging as a hub for premium, cultural, and business tourism, Vietnam is now positioning itself as a competitive and responsible global travel destination.
