Voice of Influence: Puneet Chhatwal – Steering Indian Hospitality Into the Future

In the ever-evolving landscape of global hospitality, Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director and CEO of Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), stands tall as a voice of vision and resilience. As India’s premier hospitality brand continues its impressive post-pandemic resurgence, Chhatwal’s strategic clarity is guiding IHCL towards robust growth, thoughtful expansion, and global relevance.

Speaking to various media outlets in April 2025, Chhatwal outlined IHCL’s aggressive roadmap:

“We are aiming to open 25 to 30 new properties in FY25, with 112 more in the pipeline. This accelerated pace of expansion reflects our commitment to growth and market presence.”

This is no small feat. With IHCL operating the iconic Taj, Vivanta, Ginger, and SeleQtions brands, its ambitious pipeline highlights both optimism and a calculated bet on India’s increasing domestic and inbound travel demand. The company is also venturing beyond borders in a carefully phased manner.

“While our international expansion is paced, we are focusing on strategic markets. We have signed properties in Dubai, London Heathrow, Mecca, and Kathmandu, aligning with our global aspirations,” Chhatwal revealed.

But growth isn’t just about geography—it’s about relevance. Recognizing the changing demographics of Indian travelers and the surge in tier II and III city demand, IHCL is expanding its brand portfolio. With renewed focus on the Gateway brand, Chhatwal notes:

“The launch of the Gateway brand will open up more growth opportunities, especially in Tier II and III towns, catering to the evolving needs of travelers.”
