IATO Luncheon Meeting Charts Path for Revitalizing Indian Tourism

The Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) hosted an Interactive Luncheon Meeting to address key issues in India’s tourism sector and outline actionable strategies for global enhancement. Discussions included the revival of the historic Jehruvada-Aurangabad tourism route, with IndiGo considering operations by 2025, and recommendations for reinstating lead-generation links on the Incredible India website to support business opportunities. IATO raised concerns about excessive fees charged by government-approved guides in Mumbai and urged adherence to agreed fee structures. Proposals for the Union Budget 2025-26 included GST rationalization, treating tourism as an export service, and allocating funds for global promotion. Issues related to e-visa processing errors and airline misrepresentation were also highlighted, with a call for better training for immigration officers and airline staff. IATO advocated for resolving restrictions on regional guides at Kolkata’s Victoria Memorial and emphasized India’s participation in global tourism platforms like MITT and WTM to attract international business. Members were informed about exclusive hotel rates negotiated for their benefit and a membership drive with reduced fees for underrepresented states and union territories. The meeting concluded with a call for collective efforts to shape a vibrant future for Indian tourism.
