Solo travel among women in India is evolving, with Gen Z (18-25) making up 40.7% of solo female travelers, according to new data from IntrCity SmartBus. The analysis of 2024 booking trends reveals a surge in spiritual tourism, with destinations like Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Amritsar gaining popularity, while Goa remains the top leisure destination, attracting over 20,000 solo women travelers.
The growing preference for spiritual journeys is evident, as more than 10,000 solo women travelers visited Amritsar alone. Despite this trend, Goa continues to be the most sought-after beach getaway, with significant demand from cities like Pune, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bangalore.
Women travelers are also highly organized, booking their trips 2-5 days in advance, with weekend travelers planning even earlier. The data highlights a steady 3% year-on-year rise in solo female bus travelers from 2022 to 2024, driven by improved safety, better connectivity, and a rising desire for independent exploration.
As women’s solo travel gains momentum, IntrCity SmartBus remains committed to enhancing mobility solutions that empower women to travel freely and confidently.
