Another significant step in Vietjet Air’s swift international growth has been reached with the signing of a US$300 million aircraft finance deal with AV AirFinance. The agreement, which highlighted the expansion of trade and economic ties between the two nations, was signed in front of Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc during an official visit to the United States.
The deal is a component of a larger financing package that Vietjet obtained from significant U.S. financial institutions, totaling more than US$4 billion. The airline’s ambitious fleet growth plan, which calls for the delivery of about 300 aircraft between 2025 and 2027, will be supported by these funds. The CEO of AV AirFinance, Stephen Murphy, underlined the company’s dedication to helping Vietjet expand in the Asia-Pacific area by providing contemporary, fuel-efficient aircraft.
As part of its historic 200-plane purchase, which was first inked in 2019 during former US President Donald Trump’s trip to Vietnam, Vietjet is scheduled to start receiving Boeing 737 MAX planes. One of the biggest commercial agreements between the two countries, the arrangement is valued at over US$24 billion and might grow further as part of the airline’s global plan. With total contract values close to US$50 billion, the carrier has also established long-term strategic alliances with leading American businesses including GE, Pratt & Whitney, and Honeywell.
Additional negotiations may add another US$14 billion. Notably, Vietjet’s engine and technical support contracts with GE and Pratt & Whitney alone are valued at more than US$10 billion. The airline is also collaborating with Microsoft, Apple, Google, and exploring technology integration with SpaceX to enhance its fleet’s digital capabilities.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Vietjet, reaffirmed her commitment to fostering partnerships that connect Vietnam with the global economy, particularly the United States.
Vietjet currently operates a fleet of over 115 aircraft and has more than 400 additional planes on order. The airline continues to strengthen its position in India with 10 direct routes linking Indian cities—including Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru—to Vietnam’s major hubs. Indian travelers can also connect seamlessly to other popular destinations such as Bali, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and key cities in Australia and Northeast Asia via Vietjet’s expanding international network.
