India to Launch South Asia’s Longest Ropeway Between Dehradun and Mussoorie by 2026

In a major boost to sustainable tourism and urban mobility, Mussoorie Sky Car Private Limited is set to launch the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway, a 5.2-kilometre-long mono-cable detachable gondola system. Slated for completion by September 2026, the ropeway will reduce travel time between Dehradun and Mussoorie to just 20 minutes while ascending 1,000 meters. Once operational, it will be South Asia’s longest ropeway of its kind and one of the longest in the world, positioning India as a global leader in eco-friendly transport solutions.

The project is being spearheaded by a consortium of industry leaders—FIL Industries Private Limited, POMA SAS, and SRM Engineering LLP. FIL Industries, India’s largest CEN-certified ropeway operator, is known for its successful “Skyview by Empyrean” project in Jammu and Kashmir. POMA SAS, a global name in cable transport, brings European safety standards and cutting-edge ropeway technology to the venture, making this the first European-standard ropeway in India with locally manufactured equipment through POMA India. SRM Engineering LLP adds strong expertise in infrastructure financing and development across India and abroad.

According to Mr. Syed Junaid Altaf, Group Executive Director of FIL Industries, the project combines global engineering, sustainable design, and international safety benchmarks, aiming to establish India as a global hub for modern, fast, and safe ropeway systems.

The project was recently introduced at INTERALPIN 2025, the leading alpine technologies trade fair in Innsbruck, Austria. The consortium has also been awarded the prestigious Yamunotri Ropeway Project in Uttarakhand, which will span 3.8 km between Kharsali and Yamunotri, enhancing access to one of India’s most significant pilgrimage destinations.
