Bangkok Named World’s Best City for Gen Z in Time Out’s First Global Ranking

Bangkok has been officially crowned the world’s best city for Gen Z, according to Time Out’s first-ever global ranking focused exclusively on the under-30 generation. The Thai capital secured the top spot with a City Score of 66%, beating out major cities like Melbourne, Cape Town, New York, and London.

The findings, published as part of the Time Out Index 2025, are based on a global survey of over 18,000 city-dwellers, with this year’s results filtered specifically to reflect Gen Z perspectives.

According to the report, 84% of Bangkok’s Gen Z residents said they are happy living in the city, while 71% rated it affordable a key advantage for a generation navigating rising global costs. Bangkok also ranked as the easiest city in the world for young people to make new friends, reinforcing its reputation as a vibrant, welcoming place for community and connection.

Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool welcomed the recognition, stating:
“This reflects not only Bangkok’s global appeal, but also the strength of Thai culture in creating an environment where young people can thrive. It highlights the balance between modern innovation and authentic local experience.”

Time Out highlighted that Gen Z values work-life balance, creativity, affordability, and inclusivity—all areas where Bangkok excels. The ranking signals a generational shift in how cities are evaluated, showcasing Thailand’s growing profile not only as a travel destination but also as a dynamic city to live, work, and flourish.
