Shigmo Festival Parade Brings Colour and Culture to Panaji

The vibrant spirit of Shigmo Festival came alive in the capital city as the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa organised the grand Shigmo float parade in Panaji, drawing large crowds of locals and visitors who gathered to witness the colourful cultural spectacle.

The Shigmotsav 2026 parade was flagged off by Rohan A. Khaunte in the presence of Kedar J. Naik, Kedar Naik, officials from the tourism department, and members of the Panjim Shigmotsav Committee.

Speaking on the occasion, Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte said the festival reflects the vibrant cultural identity and traditions of Goa, adding that the enthusiastic participation of communities and cultural troupes allows both residents and visitors to experience the true spirit of the state. He noted that such celebrations play an important role in preserving heritage while strengthening Goa’s cultural tourism.

Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation, Kedar J. Naik, described Shigmo as one of Goa’s most cherished festivals rooted in tradition and community spirit. He emphasised that initiatives such as the parade help showcase the authentic essence of Goa while supporting local artistes and strengthening community participation as part of the state’s regenerative tourism vision.

The colourful procession featured elaborate floats, cultural tableaux and energetic performances by folk troupes from across Goa. Traditional dances such as Ghode Modni, Romtamel, Fugdi and Goff captivated audiences along the parade route, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Tourism Director Kedar Naik said the Shigmo parade reflects the vibrancy and diversity of Goan culture and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting traditional festivals in a responsible and inclusive manner.

Organised annually by the Goa Tourism Department, the Panaji Shigmo parade forms part of the state-wide celebrations that bring together folk artistes, cultural groups and communities from across Goa. The festival continues to attract thousands of spectators every year, reinforcing Goa’s identity not only as a beach destination but also as a vibrant hub of culture and tradition.
