Sustainability Becomes a Key Travel Driver for Indians, Reveals Agoda Survey

Digital travel platform Agoda’s 2026 Sustainable Travel Survey has revealed that 88% of Indian travellers consider sustainability an important factor when choosing travel options in 2026, placing India third in Asia for prioritising sustainable travel.

According to the survey, the trend reflects a broader shift across Asia, where travellers are increasingly making conscious travel choices. Thailand tops the list with 95%, followed by Indonesia at 93%, while India and Malaysia are tied at 88%. Taiwan completes the top five with 83%.

The findings also suggest that sustainability is here to stay. In India, 90% of respondents said sustainable travel will remain important to them over the next three years, indicating a long-term shift in traveller behaviour.

Conducted across eight Asian markets, the study highlights evolving expectations, with sustainability now linked not only to environmental responsibility but also to supporting local communities and preserving destinations.
