A wide-ranging discussion on the roadmap for AI-driven inclusive development took place at the “Governance Summit 2026: Inclusive Artificial Intelligence for Viksit Bharat,” jointly organized by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Indian School of Business through its Bharti Institute of Public Policy. The one-day summit was held on May 23, 2026, at the ISB Mohali campus.

The fourth edition of the summit was inaugurated by S. Krishnan, who highlighted that Artificial Intelligence presents India with a transformative opportunity to boost productivity, strengthen governance, and expand access to sectors such as healthcare, education, manufacturing, and financial inclusion. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to developing AI systems that benefit citizens at the grassroots level.

The day-long conference featured four major panel discussions on topics including digital commerce, online safety for women and children, accessibility and affordability of healthcare, employment generation, and digital entrepreneurship. A special roundtable discussion also explored the role and operational potential of AI in public service delivery, from state governments down to village panchayats.

In his address, Professor Ashwini Chhatre stated that AI should not merely be viewed as a technological innovation, but as a long-term national mission that will shape the future of coming generations. He identified inequality, the future of employment, and rapid economic growth as key dimensions of the emerging AI landscape, while stressing the need for social security mechanisms and robust regulatory safeguards.

Senior representatives from government, industry, and academia participated in the summit. Organizations including Reliance Retail, Mastercard, Apollo Hospitals, IIT Madras, UNICEF India, and Punjab Police, along with several central and state government institutions, took part in the discussions. The summit focused on exploring how Artificial Intelligence can accelerate inclusive growth, improve governance, and contribute to India’s vision of becoming a developed nation.
