Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the satirical online platform “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP), has approached the Delhi High Court against the blocking of the platform’s X handle in India.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the X account was withheld in India on May 21 following directions from the Central government after inputs from the Intelligence Bureau raised “national security concerns.”

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) directed X to block access to the account under Section 69(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. The provision empowers the government to restrict public access to information in the interest of sovereignty, security, public order, or to prevent incitement to offences.

The account, however, remains accessible outside India.

Dipke, 30, who is currently based in Boston, United States, said he has been receiving continuous threats and is concerned about the safety of his family in India.

“I do not want anything to happen to my family because this is a choice I made, not them,” Dipke said.

The satirical account was launched in response to remarks made by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant regarding people who “attack the system.”

During a hearing involving a lawyer seeking directions related to the designation of a Senior Advocate, the Chief Justice remarked: “There are already parasites of society who attack the system… There are youngsters like cockroaches, who don’t get any employment or have any place in the profession…”

The remarks sparked widespread backlash. Subsequently, the Chief Justice clarified that his comments were not aimed at the youth of the country. He stated that he was referring to individuals entering professions with fake degrees and described them as “parasites.”

Dipke criticised the remarks in a post on X. The following day, he announced the formation of a platform for all “cockroaches” and shared a link to an online membership form, which soon turned into a viral social media trend.
